Canines Can Change Rescue Canines

The Rescue Canines are the primary participants in the Canines Change Program.

  • These dogs must pass three sets of evaluations
  • must be within the Canines Can Change ownership at time of participation.
  • Primarily Border Collies, but other breeds have been participants as well.
  • Rescued from various sources, which include owner surrender, shelter adoption, or referrals.
  • Many have faced abuse, neglect, malnourishment, and mishandling amongst others.
  • Usually need rehabilitation to get them back on their paws!
  • Must be in an adoptable status, spayed or neutered, and up to date with all of their shots and medical procedures.
  • Must reside within the kennel OR approved foster family until the program has completed the final week of the course. This is to insure that the dog is physically and mentally capable of safely participation within the program.
  • Although the participating rescue dogs are posted for adoption they cannot "arrive home" until their handler has completed the dog's training.
Codi with his handler.
Codi is up for adoption and is 2 years old. Codi and his handler have had huge success as a team and Codi will earn his CGC this Friday. This team learned how to communicate between each other, even though Codi's handler could speak limited English. This is a poster team. Look at that boy's face....doesn't that make you smile????

Lilli with her handler
Lilli's handler is a quiet and reserved girl who could speak English, but did not speak alot. Lilli's handler worked on teaching Lilli to gain confidence and trust due to Llilli's tough life prior to entering our organization. However, Lilli could not complete the program due to her rehabilitation and Lilli was sent to a responsible foster home where she was socialized and slowly brought around new situations. Lilli is up for adoption and today she has more confidence that ever! Lilli's bio will be sent to you as well.
